Issue with support
Reviewed by Joan T from NC on 06/03/2006 12:10 am
I bought this unit becuase I spoke to magellans tech support and they told me that this unit had text to speech. I got the unit and the unit did not have text to speech on it. I called AutoNavDirect about this and they clearly knew that the unit did not have that feature. I wish I would have called autonavdirect before, but I thought by calling the manufacture I would get correct information, WRONG....its obvious that they out source their tech support to india. Not impressed at all with tech support at magellan.

Great GPS! It's a KEEPER!
Reviewed by H.B. Ford from Las Vegas, NV on 05/24/2006 05:47 pm
The Roadmate 800 so far has gotten me to where I want to go everytime.VERY NICE! It does a great job. I just got the 800 last week after I gave my 700 to my son as he will need a GPS away from home the first time.
As with my old 700, it takes an expected few moments to locate all satellites to start the process, but from that point on, it works fine. The voice is clear, and the maps are easy to follow. I like the new 3D view (like factory NAV systems on many cars) and I really like the auto volume adjustment (based on speed) and the auto display coloring (based on ambient light). Most importantly, the maps seem to be very accurate, and the POI database is HUGE compared to other units I tested. Even the older Roadmate 500 and 700 series units have a much more limited POI database. They even show roads that have only recently been cleared for new developments to be built.
Overall, I rate this unit nearly perfect. It is battery operated as well for out-of-car usage, even if a bit bulky for that task. Keep in mind that the USER INTERFACE is probably the most important detail when choosing a GPS for the car. I needed to find a GPS unit that can take limited input from me, while driving in a new city, late at night, on a unfamiliar road, at 70 miles an hour. Hence, cool features are less important than a well thought-out, "Hertz Neverlost" like interface. Even the nice female voice sounds like the same lady. I know anyone can use the interface on the RM800 right out of the box. No manual needed, no need to stop the car and figure out what to press next. The GUI is SUPERB! I have not use the MP3 or the picture viewer features yet and I bought it because it's the latest full feature system from Magellan and the price is great too. I may even unlock maps of Europe on it one day and take it with me to Europe. Cheers!

Best value of ANY GPS systems on the market
Reviewed by JessGPS from Sacramento, CA on 05/24/2006 05:21 pm
Just got my MRM800, wow what a great unit, the GPS receiption is great and I love the features.
Use to own a Garmin SPIII, not even close and the Garmin 2820 cost so much more. I think I made the correct decision. The unit have all the streets that was not in my SPIII, what a difference.
Wish there is text to speech on this unit.

Complete package except for external antenna

I have used Hertz's NeverLost GPS for ten years. The Roadmate 800 is the most complete GPS, with the exception of real time GPS offered by Acura RL 3.5

Reviewed by Ken P from AZ on 05/24/2006 04:09 pm
I purchased this unit for my son as a birthday gift and he loves this unit. I knew he would like the entertainment features on this unit and its sleek look. Great thing about the magellan 800 is that it is very easy to move it from car to car if we have to. Great item to have and will get alot of use out of it.

I bought this unit because I am always getting lost. This was my first gps unit and did not know what to expect out of it. I was amazed on how accurate this unit was and I am so glade I got this unit. I really like the birds eye view on the unit and its nice to know that I have battery backup if I need it. I would recommend this unit to anyone who is looking to get a great gps unit at a great value.
