Love my StreetPilot C550-it's better than TomTom
Reviewed by Adam A. from NYC on 07/26/2006 02:31 am
This is my first AIO (ALL-In-One) GPS and I absolutely love it. I used a GPS connected to my Pocket PC’s or Palm but the cable-clutter and price of additional accessories got to me. After finding the latest features being added like Bluetooth and traffic info to the All-In-One GPS Units, I decided to give it a try. I got the Garmin StreetPilot c550 and compared it to my friends TomTom GO 910. I loved the Garmin c550 and feel it's superior in many ways with the first two notes I mention below being the major factors.
1. I live and work in NYC and the first thing I notice was the accuracy in directions and instructions of the software between the two units. For example. If I wanted to get off on Bay Street in Staten Island, it is the first exit after the Verrazano Bridge in Staten Island, I would have to stay to the Rightside before the bridge and take the Lower Level. The Garmin C550 got this accurate where the TomTom instructed me to stay to the Leftside and take the upper level of the bridge, thus bypassing the first two exits off the Bridge. The TomTom Go 910 made mistakes like this numerous times over and over again compaired to the Garmin c550.
2. The screen on the Garmin annihilated the TomTom’s in Daylight/Sunlight. Enough said.
The C550 has a SD slot allowing you to add SD Cards up to 4GB. I use the additional memory to store MP3 music (Yes, you can play music from it). The built-in Bluetooth on the unit allows me to make and receive phone calls. This feature requires you also have Bluetooth on your mobile phone in order to use.
The Traffic feature on the Garmin works as advertised. Very easy to use and very useful!
The C550 also has an Audio-Output, that lets me connect it to my Saab’s audio input. This allows me to listen to Music and Phone calls through the cars stereo speakers, very nice.

By far the best GPS I ever owned
Reviewed by GayB from San Francisco, CA on 07/13/2006 10:32 am
I have owned a Magellan 750Nav for the past 6 years and enjoy the 750Nav, the only downside is that it lacks the true portability feature and saying the street names when it offers the audio directions. I consider a new GPS to replace this 6 year old system that I paid over $2,000 for.
My friend just purchased a Garmin C550 from Autonav in San Jose, and once I saw the unit and how well it functioned, I know this is the right GPS unit for me.
I purchased this new Garmin C550 also due to the great reviews that I been reading on the web, and all I can say is this unit is about as good as it gets.
I do not have a bluetooth phone, but plan to get one because this unit supports the Bluetooth phone, the traffic service is great and all I can say this is the best $799 I ever spent on myself. I purchased this unit online from Autonavdirect.com.
I love the product and the dealer that sold it to me, received the product in 2 days and when I had a question, Jon at Autonavdirect technical support was very pleasant to deal with and very helpful.
Thank you Garmin and Autonav

******Great GPS with many cool features*****
Reviewed by Jimmy Leon from Redman, WA on 06/17/2006 12:56 am
Pre-order this one 3 weeks ago and finally received this cool GPS early this week and so far it has lived up to what I have read about this latest release GPS from Garmin. It is very easy to operate and it has been perfect in every aspect. I'm very pleased with how it performed, how it looks in my car and the display is very clear day or night. The voice guidance is also very clear and detailed. I think this is one of the best portable gps on the market today. This unit is thinker than the Nuvi 350 but I choose it over the Nuvi because the c550 has an anti-reflective screen and Nuvi does not. I also decided I really do not need all the other features in the Nuvi beside the MP3 player. The c550 comes with the traffic receiver built into the cigarette lighter and I can try it for 3 month free. I will decide later if I want to continue to subscribe to that traffic service. This is a winner!

Glad I waited to buy this great GPS!

I almost bought another model a month ago but I read about this new StreetPilot c550 and its new features. I like the bluetooth features so I waited for this new system. I can tell you that I'm so happy I did because this GPS is everything I wanted in a GPS and more. Love the MP3 and audio out feature so I can listen to my music throught by car speakers. Love that I could easily pull up a restaurant or other POI and call right from the C550.
Traffic alert also works great and has already save me a couple times during my commute by taking me via an alternate route. The screen is bright and clear even in my convertible and the voice is loud and clear too. I highly recommend this GPS.
