Neat gadget but could use more features

TOMTOM ONE is a good compact BASIC GPS unit. I say "basic" because units in the market now offer more features for little more money. One feature you will wish you had splurged for is the text to speech ability that the ONE does not have. The turn by turn voice prompts are good, but force you into looking at the unit to check the name of the street. Hindsight being 20-20 I would probably would have spent 50 to 100 more bucks for any of the Magellan, Lowrance or Garmin units with the text to speech option. On a second tier, the bluetooth option is good but is not for hands-free calling. I ask, would it have been that more difficult to offer it on the ONE?

This is the ONE! TomTom One!

I ordered the TomTom ONE mainly because it's the only GPS on the market today that fits my budget and also fits nicely in my pocket. I just received it yesterday from AutoNav and so far it exceeded my expectation. It's a great little unit with a great little windshield mount that go on the windshield easily just by press it on and also comes off very easy too just by pulling on the plastic tab. This mount actually also fit right on my dash consol which is plastic and flat. I could actually see the display right thru the top of my steering wheel. It sits right between the speedometer and the tachometer. So far I'm very impressed with this little GPS.
Only thing that bothered me a little bit is the voice prompt on the highway that says "Ahead keep left" when it means for you to go straight or not to take the exit. The voice is also loude enough and very clear. I am getting used to it already after only using it for couple of hours. This GPS is a great value. I highly recommend it.

Wow! Am I happy I got this ONE

A friend bought a TomTom 910 and just love it and he lend it to me to use for a weekend trip and it worked great. I wanted to get one too but could see spending $800 on the 910 and I decided that I don’t really need all those fancy features on the 910 especially the map of Europe. I finally pre-ordered a TomTom One from autonavdirect.com and it showed up today. Wow! Am I happy I got this ONE instead. It looks great and it also works great. Just in time for our long road trip this weekend. I’m already thinking of buying another ONE for someone special for Xmas.
