Very Good GPS

I have owned this unit for the best part of a year and have enjoyed its reliable performance thoroughly. However, half the reason I bought this crossover unit was for the topographic maps and the ability to enhance the maps with more detail by purchasing the Mapsend Topo SD card, the problem is that this SD card is still unavailable with no promised delivery date from Magellan. Overall, I would highly recommend this unit.

I really like my new Crossover unit. It is everything I need in one package. Very durabel, compact and versital on land and while boating to set lacations.

I just wanted to let everyone know that this site is the best out there. I tried to buy one of these from another site and it was just a mess, from experience always buy from sites that are magellan authorized dealers. Great unit from a great site. magellan crossover gps

I bought this for my husband for his birthday and he loves it. What a cool device and probably the most excited I have seen him get for a present I got him. I did not rank the durability high as we have only had it a short time, but I will come back on here in a few months for an update. Thank you autonavdirect for all your assistance and there really is not a better place on the net to buy a gps. Thanks soo much for everything.

Just what I needed

I could not be more pleased with my magellan crossover gps. I dont do alot of hiking, but I find the off road ability of this gps to be a life saver. All my friends were very impressed with my unit when we went hunting and to be able to route back using the bread crumb trail is the best. Thanks soo much magellan

One fine piece of equipment

Right out of the box user friendly. This is a great gps unit to fill every need, anywhere you want to go or to do anything you wish to do. The advance notice of intersections is great, the chime at the turn is wonderful. As a handheld it is very accurate and easy to use. It does take some getting used to the touch screen and with large fingers, you must be careful. I have used Magellan products for approximately 11 or 12 years and have never been dissatisfied. This crossover unit is perfect for the vehicle and all outdoor uses. Thanks Magellan for another fine product. I look for many good years of service and it is rugged enough to stand up to the time test. AutoNav Direct did a great job getting it shipped and filling my order. Thank you too!

Man I love this new magellan crossover. I have been waiting for it to come out for some time now and once I saw AutoNavDirect had it I ordered it with next day shipping. I got it next day and could not be happier with this crossover 2500t unit. Now there is no where I cant go now haha. Thanks

Like to offer impressions and recommendations for the best all around GPS unit at a sub $550 cost.
The Magellan CrossoverGPS - North America (2500T) unit.
I have been beta testing the Magellan CrossoverGPS and found this unit to be extremely useful and the additional unique features it has to offer makes this unit a must own GPS product in 2007.
I used to have to carry a handheld unit for Geocaching and or hiking, a marine GPS unit for boating, and now I can have an all-in-one GPS unit without having to buy a bunch of additional GPS systems and carrying them around. You can take it on your hike, mark waypoints along the way and save the route to go again on your next hike. Detailed built-in street maps of North America and light topographic maps of the 48 contiguous United States are pre-loaded.
You could easily add optional detailed regional MapSend Topo topographic maps, MapSend BlueNav marine charts or MapSend Lakes charts via SD (Secure Digital) memory cards and navigate your ways while boating, fishing or jet skiing, the Magellan CrossoverGPS unit offers marine software that will offer information such as water depth, docks and navigation aids such as buoys and channel markers.
Note: the CrossoverGPS is waterproof to IPX-4, so you cannot go scuba diving with it.
The MP3 and the Picture Viewer are also added features and are nice to have. I have been waiting to test the TrafficKit since the CrossoverGPS will be able to receive real-time incident reports. (Subscription required for traffic reports only).
The CrossoverGPS is really an excellent product at a very reasonable price, the user interface is very easy and I think this unit will be a success for Magellan.
For the users that do not wish to be carrying and invest in multiple dedicated GPS units, the Magellan CrossoverGPS is the only solution available.
Pros
This unit is small, portable and very powerful, A true ALL-IN-ONE GPS system.
Text-to-Speech is much better than the older version in the RoadMate series with TTS.
The best-in-class battery offers up to 8 hours of use.
Friendly user interface and fast route calculations.
The expansion capabilities offer more options than most such as premium POI's also optional.
The multiple address (Trip Planner) features can be a big plus for delivery drivers or anyone that need a unit to perform multiple destination routing.
The Exit POI = (Points of Interest) is very useful since it only offers important useful points of interest information such as gas stations, restaurants, hotels and auto repair near up coming interstate or highway exits, and will not clutter the POI options with POI's that is near your physical location but not near the exit that you can route to easily.
Magellan offers (Route Method Options) each and every time you select a destination. This is one of the better features that are not found in competitive GPS units. The ability to select Least Use of Freeways when you wish to use Surface Street only could be a big plus during heavy commute hours.
The ability to transfer address book information with an SD card to use as back up information at a later date, or to share with other Magellan CrossoverGPS address book with other users could be extremely useful, no longer will you need to input repetitive address over and over again in all the units when all is necessary to do is back this information up on an SD card and restore the address book information back on all the units you wish to share this address book information. Great for businesses or delivery vehicles, taxi cabs, Limos that have common customers.
Water resistant allows this CrossoverGPS unit to be taken into back country for snowmobiling, skiing, cross county skiing or use it on a motorcycle, moped, bicycle or even a Segway without the fear of getting lost and unable to find your way back to base camp.
Bright and clear color touch screen display is a plus. Most portable outdoor or marine GPS units are not touch screen and have much smaller displays.
Outdoor mode with optional Topo map software allow anyone to drive to their destination on surface streets with turn by turn directions with this unit, and continue on by taking the CrossoverGPS unit with them for hiking, hunting, sightseeing, geocaching, treasure hunting, exploring unfamiliar territories without the fear of getting lost, just simply use the track feature and (Back Track) option when you are ready to find your way back to your base camp.
Marine mode with optional marine charts and or lake charts allows you to take this unit to your favorite lakes and use the CrossoverGPS features to insert waypoints to mark your favorite landmark or secret fishing holes for future trips.
Ruggedized protective armor allows this unit to be hardier than most competition PND units that do not include this protective armor.
Ultra sensitive SiRFstar III GPS receiver included which makes the CrossoverGPS very sought-after.
Some competitive handheld outdoor or marine GPS systems could cost as much if not more than the CrossoverGPS without the built-in speaker and the automotive voice prompts turn by turn features.
The price for this unit is probably the most outstanding feature. You can try to buy 3 different GPS units to attempt to replicate the features this single PND offers. The Magellan CrossoverGPS being a true all-in-one GPS unit with a price that can’t be beat.
Too much to list but I simply love this system
Cons
Speaker volume is not as loud as some other units, but the others are not water resistant, the water resistant is a trade off for speaker volume, and the unit sound quality is loud enough and good enough for most.
Standard POI information is not as complete as other competitive units, it covers most of what is needed and what is missing is a lot of the POI's that are not used by 90% of the consumers. This unit includes up to 1.5M of POI information.
Too much unnecessary voice prompts on the freeway other than the 2 or 3 just prior to the actual exit. It would often say "Continue on the current road south U.S.101" or "Continue on the current road and follow by a Continue on the current road south U.S. 101".
3D map view is not as pleasing to the eyes as some of the other units.
Street names display does not follow the actual streets map directions, which can be confusing at times.
MP3 Player and Picture Viewer are not as user friendly as some other units.
Screen could be slightly larger than 3.5”, which is pretty much the standard of the industry currently. A 4" plus screen size in the future would be nicer.
No FM modulation feature, which is becoming popular these days.
Bluetooth hands free feature is missing, this is a nice feature to include.
No Video MP4 player capability.
No Game options like the Mio H610
Send text message over the net via PND unit. =(Personal Navigation Device)
No voice input command ability like the Novogo GPS
No world clock, language translator, tour guidebook, Audio book like the Garmin Nuvis.
If I have to own only ONE GPS unit, the Magellan CrossoverGPS would be the one I would select or recommend. So I did. Did I tell you I own more than 30 PND GPS units personally? This unit is one of my favorite GPS units.
