Nuvi 1490T and Lifetime Map Updates

I purchased the 1490T and Lifetime Map Updates in August from AutoNavDirect. I read M A N Y reviews prior to purchasing, some of which were against this model. Garmin may well have released this unit with poor firmware at the outset. They now seem to have corrected this issue.
I highly recommend, (BEFORE PUTTING THE UNIT INTO SERVICE,) updating the software(firmware) and the maps using your one-time free map update.
I've waited some time to write my review. Now that I've used this device for several months locally, as well as 2 long trips ...... I can say this is a GREAT machine. I am a 4-time Garmin owner and this unit, by far, is the best I've owned.
People complained about the unit turning itself off for no reason. I've not encountered that problem once. The screen is quite large and very "readable" under any conditions. Lane assist is always present when you are navigating a route. Junction view is only present in some locations but when it is there....it's wonderful. It shows you the road signs just as they are on the roadway you are traveling. They "gray out" the ones that you don't want to follow and the "good one" remains in green.
Bluetooth works well, but, with my particular phone (Droid-X -
not fully supported by Garmin)it re-sets itself after each call. That is, it drops Bluetooth, then restores it. Sometimes you're trying to figure out why you can't hear your caller. It's because of this drop-out condition. Once restored all is well.
I have activated, and used, my Lifetime Map Update feature once since buying this unit. It takes quite a while to download and install new maps, but that is Garmin-wide and not specific to this unit. Be prepared to spend some time doing a map update. Many folks suggest doing it overnight. That might be the best way.
Bottom line ----- I highly recommend this unit. Garmin has yet another winner!!!

Looked EVERY where for this unit

I looked everywhere for 2 weeks for this unit and found that autonavdirect def had the lowest price for a new unit.
You will see refurbished all over the place out there but the price that autonavdirect has is almost the same price as the refurbished units but its BRAND NEW unit in the box.
With gps units its def not worth getting a used refurbished unit.
I love my garmin 1490t and thank you autonavdirect for having such amazing deals.
If you are looking at this model get it as you wont be dissappointed.

I was not sure which model I was going to get and they were able to point me in the right direction for the best gps unit that fits my needs.
Very nice sales people and great low prices. I have told all my friends about this site.
I love the 1490t and its large 5 inch screen.

I purchased it a week prior to going from NJ to Myrtle Beach SC. Worked great all the way down and back especially re-routing through the traffic in VA. I use it every day at work with no problems. Only issue is while uploading software from Garmin, locked up the GPS. Called Garmin and they talked me through resetting it. Had a great experience with tech support from Garmin. Really recommend this unit.

I was looking at gettting this one or the garmin 1390t, I decided to get the larger 5 inch screen and I really do love the unit. Large bright screen with a unit that is loaded with features.
AutoNavDirect.com know what they are talking about and they were able to assist me with what my needs were and I got this 1490t. I recommend this unit and this site to all.

I am sooo pleased with the price I got my garmin 1490t for at this site. I did tons of searching and found them to be the best overall price and even better I got the item in record time.

Have been using this GPS now for about 2 months. I have to say I absolutely love it! I am a service technician so my job is traveling place to place servicing the equipment I work on. I've been finding different ways of getting to places that I didn't know before. I haven't had a problem at all with satellite signal(Garmin is the best being they use government satellites) and my route is sometimes very rural.If I happen to miss a turn, which I sometimes do on purpose, the rerouting is very quick. 99% of the places I have punched in it has found with no problem. I haven't updated the maps yet, but I'm sure when I do it will be that much better. The volume is loud and clear. I have mine set to 50% which is plenty loud. The voice is clear and crisp, no problem understanding it. The add service is no bother at all, it only comes on when you are stopped for a period of time. I haven't used all the features of this device yet, but I'm sure I will be quite satisfied with them. Anyone looking for a great GPS, I would highly recommend this one.

This is my second Garmin. It has been all I expected. My extended family all have used different brands of GPS and none of them like their own brand. The price was higher than other brands with very little discount on the internet but still I am glad I have come back to it. I especially like the larger screen and the heaver cord for plugging it in. It still has the same problem my last one did as far as it must be turned off from the switch before unplugging it from the dash. Otherwise it will freeze up. My previous one became too much of a problem to keep because of this. I can understand the sound much better. I do miss the volume control to quickly turn the sound down when traffic get heavy.

This GPS is as close to perfect as possible. With such a large screen, manipulation is easy and self-explanatory. Spoken directions give proper warning, and the named streets on the map will clear up confusion on tricky corners. The Bluetooth connection works very well. The only issue I have is that caller's names will not always appear on the incoming call window. Also, if there was a way to include text message reading, that would be extremely useful while driving.
Other than that, I've already used this to guide me half way across the country and love it!
