My first GPS for my bike!
Reviewed by Jerry R. Garcia from Austin, TX on 09/08/2006 03:57 pm
I have been shopping for a GPS for use on my motorcycle for a long time. My requirements were for a unit that was portable, water resistant, vibration resistant, and easy to view in direct sunlight. The Rider fulfills the first three and the display is just not quite bright enough under direct sunlight.
The Rider is very easy to use and installs on your motorcycle using the included "RAM like" mounting hardware.
Route planning is quick. Maps are pretty good and up to date. TomTom provides a feedback site for map errors and or complaints.
Since the unit comes with Bluetooth, you don't really need to look at the screen that much while you ride, just follow the audio prompts for each turn.
Maps for the U.S. and Canada included. It has all detailed street level maps along with numerous Points of Interest.
Route planning covers Fastest, Shortest, Avoid Freeways-(Highways), Walking, Bicycle, and Limited speed. It also includes options for Toll road/bridge avoidance.
So far, it has guided me perfectly and got me home everytime. It's much better than having my wife shout the direction at me. Yes, you sould get one!

Excellent motorcycle GPS with bluetooth
Reviewed by Michael Rose from Mission Viejo, Calif. on 06/07/2006 11:33 pm
This is a great GPS. No more looking up directions, printing maps and then trying to follow them while riding. Now I just enter the address (even with gloves on or try using a stylus for better accuracy.) and ride. You can route to, route around, get traffic & weather information via TomTom Server, call & answer phone calls, send and receive emails(on some phones) all from your TomTom Rider. All turn-by-turn instructions and phone calls are routed to the included Bluetooth headset, which fits comfortably in your helmet. Two earpieces are included: a thin speaker and an earbud. It will work with other bluetooth headsets as well. Nothing beats just going for a ride, getting completely lost and then simply route to home after the wife calls. Its IPX7 water resistant, battery powered (can run off your bike's battery as well) and extremely well made. Not many phones (non-GSM) are supported. So most likely you'll need to do some research to manually set up the web access with your bluetooth phone. Check TomTom's site for compatibility.
If you have it connected to your bike correctly (switched 12v DC) you will never have to turn it on or off by the switch, it automatically turns on when you start and off when you turn off the bike or remove it from the cradle. The display is very bright and clear with great 3 dimensional map view. Very simple and clear voice prompts for each turn or exit.
